Carl's Jr in Camarillo - RIP Carl Karcher

Submitted by John on Tue, 01/15/2008 - 20:18.

Carl Karcher, the founder of Carl's Jr passed away on January 11, 2008.

I haven't gone to Carl's Jr for a year or so. Today, as soon as I heard the new on Carl's passing, I went to Carl's Jr for dinner.  I thought I should pay proper respect. The man knew burgers.  God bless Carl Karcher.

I have a lot of high school memories at Carl's Jr.  Back then going to Carl's Jr was a big treat.  I only went to Carl's Jr. during the weekend with my girlfrien as a big treat.

Carl's Jr

Carl's Jr took away the salad bar.  That's the biggest reason why I haven't gone to Carl's Jr lately.  I don't eat salad bar, but I always eat the hot peppers whenever I eat at Carl's Jr.  Burgers are not the same without hot peppers.  That's why I prefer Tomy's Burger & Habbit over Carl's Jr.

Nostalgic... Great Pic!

I also remember going to this Carl's Jr with my girlfriend way back in high school... We have a very fond and memorable story about meeting President Nixon there in the mid-eighties (My girlfriend at the time thought, at first, that it was someone in a Nixon mask). As we approached him, he waved off his security detail (which I guess all former Presidents maintain through the rest of their lives) and greeted us warmly. All I could come up with in my goofy-teenaged mind was to ask "What bring's you to our little city?" He replied that he was headed to some big doo-dad in Santa Barbara, was a friend of Carl's, and decided to see what all the fuss was about. "Great burgers!" he declared as he shook our hands and exited towards his limo. And that was it. Now I think I'll go grab a Double-Western Cheeseburger and a Coke. :)
